The Mapping and Inventory unit is responsible for monitoring the nation’s forest resources and compiling essential data to support forest management, planning, and decision-making.

The unit’s key activities include:

Execution of timber surveys in gazetted, communal, and commercial forests
Change detection for forest cover monitoring
Production of vegetation maps at both national and local levels
Analysis of fire data from gazetted forests
Assessment of Permanent Increment Plots for growth estimation
